A model based on Quickie and Viking Dragonfly

#1 Post by Letun »

In order to experiment and for my kids, I decided to make a model airplane. She will be similar to Quickie and Viking Dragonfly.
First, we printed the model on a 3D printer, but decided to go further and began to create a model one and a half meters in size. Who cares, I can provide all the files without any problems.

For those who also want to print a model toy, here I am attaching a file, download and print. The file in the STL format is attached in the archive, it can be scaled to the size of your printer and what you want to get!

I also wanted to make a wooden model. She will have a plywood frame. It was originally designed for 6.5 mm plywood, but it can be easily scaled, because then I scaled it to a thickness of 6 mm and ordered laser cutting of plywood.

The model was divided into parts and placed on a sheet so that it could be economically cut with a laser.

Having received all the details, we began to study them. Of course, my main assistants are my sons.

First we take the longest base and collect all the frames on it, the main thing is not to mix up the order and the grooves that go exactly on this base 8-)

Next, we begin to add longitudinal layers to make the fuselage. Somewhere I had to knock out, since all the parts fit tightly together and the fuselage did not even have to be glued.

The next step is to attach the front and rear wings. It is better to start from the front, having previously flipped the plane. Nui then back, and it is better to wear wing elements only after their frame is fixed to the fuselage.

It remains only to hang the remaining elements, such as the tail, chassis and screw.

And now the most important thing, customers should check the aircraft for strength and build quality :) While we stopped at this stage, but it is possible as we wrote earlier, we will fill the distance in the frame with polystyrene, polish it and paint it to get a mini copy of the plane 8-)
